American Landscapes
I will have a lot more to say about these, but for the time being, here are a few pictures. I have begun to craft a few words and a book of these images, much to the credit of Monica. In a nutshell, I began making images from a variety of places, and in spite of my reasons, I struggled with accepting the less than perfect negatives. But as of now, I have re-thought this. Perhaps there will be a lot more to say about WHY I made these images, but suffice it to say, I am very glad I have these pictures, and I have removed the restraints I placed on them. I have now, accepted the images as very good. Along with the words I have intended for these photographs, I am hoping much will make sense about these. I begin this voyage , but I want to share and understand a lot more about these images.
I have borrowed the title, or at least a variation on it from my mentor, Dan Powell at the University of Oregon.

These are a few Images that I made from 1989-1995. All are from film scans, and virtually all of them are from 4x5 inch negatives.
A few have heard me talk about these, but I started with an unreal expectation that the images would be blemish-free, and when the images weren't, I ignored the pictures. Fortunately, I have re-thought this decision, and a big part of this has to do with the fact that the images were really good, in spite of my expectations.
